2 Questions that Cure Depression

Depression ProzacI know that I am going to get some angry comments on this one. I get the most “hate mail” when I write posts about depression and creating happiness. It’s okay. I completely understand. It is a very difficult topic and there are many forms of depression. Some are self-induced, some come from hardships in life, and some come from chemicals in the brain getting out of balance. Some forms require medication, some require time alone, and some just require an encouraging word. I know that people who have never had it, could never fully understand it.

The advice I give below comes from years of counseling and giving advice to people who have come to me or e-mailed me asking for help battling depression. I have seen this technique pull people out of depressive and self-destrucive thought patterns and even get people off of medication who thought they would be on it for the rest of their lives.… Read the rest!

Get In the Pool! Overcoming the Fear of Failure

Get in the pool

Summer is here and in Arizona it means some really hot weather. Those of us who live here spend time moving from an air-conditioned house to an air-conditioned car to the air-conditioned store and back again. Or we end up in a swimming pool.

As soon as our kids are out of school, they start swim team. Every morning they go to one of the public pools for an hour and work on their swim strokes. Then, every Thursday night is the swim meet, where they can compete for a ribbon.

You Were Born for This!

Born for This

Why are you here? Have you ever stopped to wonder?

Some would have you believe that you are merely here because of a reaction between two complex molecules. They would have you believe that there is no purpose to your life other than to procreate and advance the species. You are not special. You are nothing more than a random mixture of DNA. Born DNA

They will tell you that the world is made up of only greed, selfishness, and misery. They will tell you it is okay to become cynical, negative, and depressed because that’s how life is. They will be angry with envy when you succeed. They will be content and self-congratulating when you are down. They will never stop criticizing everything else because “life’s not fair.”

They will tell you that your biggest dreams are foolish and that your deep emotions are over-exaggerated.… Read the rest!

The Inevitable Battle Within

Jesse Owens (1913-1980) was an African-American track and field athlete who became a sports legend during the Berlin Olympics in 1936. Adolf Hitler and his Nazi party had been in power for three years and the Berlin games was the perfect way to showcase the might and efficiency of Germany’s new political regime. Hitler believed that the Aryan master race (white, blonde hair, blue eyes) was superior to all other races and was looking forward to this being proved at the Berlin games. But Jesse Owens burst his bubble by winning four gold medals in the 100m, 200m, long-jump and 4x100m relay.
